Blackmagic Design announced the release of Blackmagic Camera 3.4 for Android. It is available for free download from the company’s website.
This update adds features such as 4K HDMI output with audio, camera control from a companion app for Wear OS, and remote control via REST API.
This enables a flexible production workflow from an Android phone running Blackmagic Camera. For example, it’s useful in setups where you need to place the camera in a hard-to-reach location or monitor and control the recording from another location. The 4K HDMI output with audio allows connection to external monitors, switchers, and recorders while maintaining a high-quality video feed from the phone.
WearOS camera control makes it easy to start and stop recording from your wrist, even when your phone is mounted on a rig, vehicle, or gimbal, or in a hard-to-reach location.
It also now supports pausing recording. Instead of starting a completely new clip each time, recording can be continued, making it easier to manage long-form shoots such as interviews, events, and behind-the-scenes footage.
Furthermore, the REST API remote control and the new “Remote Camera Manager” feature make it easy to set up multicam workflows and control, check, and manage multiple Android phones from a single location.
This update adds support for Blackmagic Focus Demand and Zoom Demand, remote control of Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, and new features such as a proxy clip manager and PCM audio options. LUT handling on some Android phones has also been improved, and overall performance and stability have been enhanced.
