Tokina Cinema announced the expansion of its Vista-P series with the addition of two new cine lenses: the 21mm T1.5 and 29mm T1.5. Like all Vista-P lenses, these lenses combine a distinctive vintage look with high resolution, fast aperture and modern handling.
The VISTA-P 21mm T1.5 and 29mm T1.5 lenses in particular offer resolution beyond that of traditional vintage lenses, cover large formats, have wider focal lengths and offer faster T-stops that most vintage cinema lenses simply don’t offer.
Stopping down the lens increases the depth of field and reduces bokeh, allowing the cinematographer to achieve sharper, more contrasty and generally more realistic images with the same lens.
These two lenses join the existing series to complete a set of 11 lenses with a T-stop of T1.5, completing the complete VistaVision lineup.
Currently, the lineup includes the following lenses: 18mm, 21mm, 25mm, 29mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 65mm, 85mm, 100mm, and 135mm. All of them have a T1.5 brightness, and lenses above 35mm enable high-resolution shooting even in larger formats.
Vintage personality, modern performance
Images captured with the Vista-P lens have a unique atmosphere, especially at the edges of the frame, where they exhibit the characteristic swirling distortion that is reminiscent of the Helios-44 and Petzval lenses, making them ideal for portrait photography.
The Vista-P series is a lens that represents the culmination of the optical design work of the Tokina Cinema team. It is a unique series that combines the excellent characteristics of modern lenses with the attractive bokeh of vintage lenses. While listening to the opinions of leading cinematographers and rental companies, it has achieved both beautiful bokeh on the periphery of the image and high resolution in the center. This lens has almost no breathing, and its large aperture of T1.5 allows you to clearly separate the subject from the background when necessary.

Precision tuned at the factory for maximum performance
The Tokina Cinema VISTA P lenses were developed based on the design of the acclaimed Vista line, which is also used in the popular TV series “Ted Lasso.” While the exterior is similar to existing Vista lenses, the internal structure has been significantly revamped. By reviewing the lens configuration and optimizing the air layer inside the lens, spherical aberration is intentionally introduced and meticulous adjustments are made to achieve a unique image quality.
By increasing the thickness of the air space inside the lens, a softer image is achieved, enabling low-contrast image expression similar to that of vintage lenses. The combination of soft peripheral image expression and low contrast expression makes Vista-P an ideal modern alternative to unreliable, low-resolution vintage lenses.
Some engineers try to modify original lenses to achieve their own unique look. This is generally done by adjusting the spacing of the rear lens group. However, such simple adjustments are not enough and the internal structure of the lens needs to be significantly modified. Vista-P achieves the desired effect by making such advanced adjustments, which sets it apart from other modifications.
Designed for VistaVision
The effects of spherical aberration are especially noticeable on VistaVision and full frame sensors, but they can be mitigated on Super35 and smaller formats.
Factory Upgrade
The Vista-P series can be purchased as a brand new lens, already upgraded, or as an upgrade for an existing Vista prime lens. In the case of an upgrade, the lens will need to be sent back to Japan for modification. Once upgraded, there is no going back.
Tokina Cinema Vista-P Features
Tokina Cinema’s Vista-P lenses offer all the key benefits of a regular cinema Vista prime: virtually no focus breathing, and a 46.7mm image circle makes them compatible with most large format cinema cameras.
The lenses share the same 114mm front outer diameter and 9-blade aperture, and are available in PL, LPL, Sony E, EF, or MFT mounts.
