Nikon begun distributing four RED-designed Creative LUTs and one Technical LUT for free, for N-LOG RAW shooting. These LUTs can be used for grading video material recorded in N-Log on Nikon mirrorless cameras, or can be installed on an external monitor to check the finished image on location.
The Creative LUTs being distributed this time have been supervised by RED Digital Cinema, Inc. Nikon purchased RED Digital Camera earlier this year and made it a subsidiary. RED has a proven track record in professional cinema cameras.
The LUTS come in four types: “ACHROMIC,” “FILM BIAS,” “FILM BIAS BLEACH BYPASS,” and “FILM BIAS OFFSET.” These LUTs make it possible to incorporate RED’s color science into the workflow of filmmaking using mirrorless cameras, making it easy to create a cinematic look with footage recorded in N-Log, as if it were shot and graded with a RED cinema camera.
NIKON N-Log LUTs Details:
Low contrast black and white “ACHROMIC”
The low contrast monochrome highlights the texture and shape of the subject, creating a soft, classic image that focuses on detail and atmosphere.
“FILM BIAS” – Warm colors and just the right amount of contrast
It adds balanced color tones and subtle contrast to give digital images a film-like warmth and texture. Skin tones are also natural, providing a more sophisticated look in every scene.
Dull colors and high contrast “FILM BIAS BLEACH BYPASS”
The high contrast, desaturated colors reproduce a tight, sophisticated impression, similar to that produced by bleach bypass (silver retention), a film processing technique.
Deep, warm, retro colors: “FILM BIAS OFFSET”
Apply unique color correction and contrast adjustments to recreate the warmth and softness of vintage film.
