Let’s celebrate CES2025 with “Tomorrow’s Tech 2025”!
CES2025, one of the world’s largest technology trade shows, is underway in Las Vegas again this year. Prior to the opening on January 7th, the keyword raised in the customary tech trend session for the media was “Tomorrow’s Tech 2025.” With data, it was shown that technology is not just a tool, but that it will transform our daily lives and open up new possibilities.
The presentation was given by Melissa Harrison, VP of Marketing at the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), and Brian Comiskey, Senior Director of Innovation and Trends.
What are the six key topics to watch at CES2025?
This year’s hot keywords include “Tech to Table” (technology supporting all aspects of life, from growing crops to harvesting, logistics, and even health care) and “digital coexistence.” These keywords clearly paint a picture of the future of life and industry after 2025.
Below are six key topics to watch in 2025 that were introduced in the Tech Trends session.
1. The future of technology by generation
As per usual for tech trends, the presentation began by looking at the changes in technology attitudes by generation. Of particular note was the influence of Generation Z. This generation accounts for 32% of the world’s population and 27% of the working population in OECD countries. They are particularly prevalent in South America, Southeast Asia, and Africa, and are digital natives who grew up with smartphones. Attention was focused on the consumption behavior of this generation, and it was revealed that 60% of Generation Z are early adopters, and that they tend to be early adopters of new technologies.
While they like fast fashion, they also have a strong awareness of sustainability. For example, they tend to be more willing to purchase products that emphasize natural energy and recycling than fast fashion.
Additionally, the report also provides positive forecasts for the US technology market across generations, with overall industry retail revenues expected to reach $537 billion in 2025, with particular growth expected in the software and services sectors.
2. The Future of Shopping
At CES 2024 last year, the rise of generative AI was highlighted with great fanfare, and Walmart’s AI purchasing assistance service attracted attention, but I was surprised by the data showing that in just a year, AI commerce has become commonplace.
The AI retail market has already grown to $7 billion, and data shows that 64% of consumers use AI tools for online shopping. This includes cases where AI is used without consumers being aware of it, but the evolution of personalization through AI is enabling consumers to have a better purchasing experience, and this trend is expected to continue to accelerate.
3. Coexistence with AI in the digital world
AI is deepening its relationship with humans. This year’s tech trends focused on the keyword “Digital Coexistence.” This term differs from the “digital coexistence” that was used in the era of widespread smartphone use, and refers to a new form of coexistence in which AI has permeated our daily lives and work.
The survey revealed that 93% of American adults understand generative AI, and of those, 61% are using AI in the workplace. Here are three areas of coexistence with AI that were in the spotlight this year:
The first is AI agents. For example, products like Chatbase assist with efficient information search and communication, and are becoming indispensable in everyday life. The second is digital twins. NVIDIA’s “Earth 2” project is an effort to simulate reality in a virtual space, and is expected to be used in the industrial and environmental fields. And the third is humanoid robots. The robots developed by Enchanted Tools are evolving to be able to empathize with humans.
In 2024, OpenAI announced “Figure 01” and Elon Musk announced “Tesla Optimus.” These robots suggest the possibility of a new interface where AI and humans coexist.
4. Energy and Sustainability
Energy transition is an important theme in modern society. Three elements in particular are attracting attention: infrastructure, experimental technology, and sustainability. As the power grid becomes more resilient, the introduction of new technologies is accelerating. The solar technology “Powerfoyle” developed by Sweden’s Exeger is a thin and flexible film-like structure that can be incorporated into a variety of products. Panasonic’s lithium battery, the highlight of this year’s rare performance, was of course introduced in Tech Trends.
Additionally, in the smart home field, Siemens and Samsung are providing energy management solutions, contributing to improving sustainability. At last year’s exhibition, Samsung introduced an initiative to reduce power consumption through the overall management of home appliances using AI, and this year too, the use of AI in smart homes is attracting attention.
While there is interest in how the Trump administration will respond to green energy policies, the CTA is proactively introducing the future of green energy as a tech trend. It is also rumored that nuclear energy solutions will be exhibited from France at Eureka Park, demonstrating the diversity of new energy technologies.
5. Innovation in mobility
This year, there has been a string of noteworthy news in the Japanese mobility sector, with Toyota announcing the latest information on Woven City and Suzuki exhibiting at CES for the first time. Among them, the tech trend announcement emphasized four key trends in the mobility sector: electrification, connectivity, autonomy, and industrials.
There has also been talk about the possibility of flying cars, and the Xpeng AeroHT, a self-driving flying vehicle that can fit into the trunk of a car, is attracting attention as a new means of transportation.
6. Technology for Well-being and Longevity
The evolution of technology to meet the needs of an aging society is attracting attention. In the field of health tech, the importance of blood sugar management can be cited. I myself have used Abbott’s small blood sugar check device “FreeStyle Libre” to manage my blood sugar levels in conjunction with my smartphone. As a result, my awareness of diet changed, and I realized that health tech is an important field. Other examples include onMed’s “CareStations” and Withings’ “BPM Pro 2,” which make it easier to monitor health conditions and contribute to the promotion of preventive medicine.
The concept of “Aging in Place” is also introduced, which refers to the evolution of smart home technologies that help seniors continue to live independently in the homes they are familiar with. Surveys show that 80% of U.S. consumers recognize smart home technology as “age tech” for seniors, and 52% own at least one major age tech product.
Furthermore, the concept of “Healthyr Living” is also attracting attention. This is a movement to reconsider home appliances and services from a health perspective, and product selection criteria are not limited to price and functionality, but also emphasize contribution to health. Gen Z in particular is sensitive to technology, and is actively engaged in health-conscious purchasing behavior. This trend is supporting the spread of home appliances that put technology at the forefront.
Other products introduced include Nutrix, which supports mental health; Glidance, which acts as a “guide dog” for the visually impaired; and L’Oréal’s “Brow Magic,” which attracted attention at last year’s keynote speech, and other products that symbolize the fusion of beauty and technology.
CES2025 is finally underway!
AI has already permeated many areas, and new generations are shaping the future by actively experimenting with it. As the “Tech to Table” perspective shows, technology is involved in every aspect of our daily lives and is a driving force for building a better society. This can also be expanded to “Tech to House” and “Tech to Society.” With these tech trends as a backdrop, this year’s CES2025 is finally about to begin.
