This product is based on the previously-released “OM-3,” and is a dedicated camera for astrophotography, optimizing the optical characteristics of the IR cut filter located in front of the sensor for astrophotography, allowing for vivid capture of red nebulae. By combining it with the OM SYSTEM’s computational photography functions, separately sold body-mounted filters, and the wide range of M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses, it enables a wide range of astronomical expressions, from starry sky photography to constellations and nebulae.
This model is made to order.
OM SYSTEM OM-3 ASTRO Main Features
- Captures the Hα line and captures beautiful red diffused nebulae in high quality
- Supports a wide range of photography, from starry sky photography to full-scale astronomical photography
- High-resolution shots can be captured with high-resolution stacking processing
Details of main features
High-resolution astronomical photography capturing the Hα line
The IR cut filter in front of the sensor has been optimally tuned to allow approximately 100% transmittance of the H-alpha line, making it possible to clearly capture the shape and color of H-alpha emitting nebulae, which are difficult to photograph with a regular digital camera.
The back-illuminated stacked Live MOS sensor, TruePic X image processing engine, and color profile control function clearly reproduce the colors of stars and faint nebulae, maintaining high resolution even when shooting at high sensitivity.

Custom modes C1 to C3 come preset with color profiles: COLOR1 (for astrophotography) and COLOR2 (for starry sky photography). These modes capture impressive starry skies.
Supports a wide range of photography, from starry skies to nebulae
The wide range of M.ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses allows for everything from wide-angle starry sky photography to telephoto nebulae photography. By using a Micro Four Thirds compatible adapter, it is also possible to attach the camera to an astronomical telescope for photography.
Stacking processing using high-resolution shots
With the High Res Shot function with the camera fixed to a tripod, stacking processing for astronomical photography can be performed in one shot within the body.
The 12 images combine to generate a high-resolution image of approximately 50 million pixels. This process shoots high definition while also reducing noise. Additionally, the composite image corrects the movement of stars due to diurnal motion and tracking errors when using an equatorial mount.
