In this Blackmagic Case Study, Blackmagic Design has showcased that the Artistica Music and Show SCpA (AMS) utilized an ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO live production switcher for Moto2 team Forward Racing as part of a comprehensive program streamed live from the Oakley Italian Grand Prix. The Italian rounds of this year’s MotoGP and Moto2 World Championships were held at the Mugello circuit back in June.
Forward Team SA, an Italian-Swiss team that designs and builds the world’s most advanced motorcycles, renewed its partnership with Turin-based live event specialist AMS to create branded content for web and social media bottom.
Some of the content produced by AMS was in the form of short programming that was streamed live ahead of the Moto2 race.
A highlight of the live stream was the special livery of Forward Racing’s bikes. Gabriel Rusco, Head of AMS’ Sporting Events Business Unit, The Black Studio Live, said:
Riel Rusco: Minutes before the riders took their starting positions, we unveiled a special gold livery to commemorate the team’s home Grand Prix.
The delivery workflow used an ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO, multiple Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pros and a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro digital film camera.
Riel Rusco: We only had 30 minutes, but it was surprisingly easy in the limited time and space thanks to the ATEM HD8 ISO’s all-in-one design and support for tally and camera control. This saved an enormous amount of time in terms of workflow.
Thanks to our versatile kit, you can do things that other devices can’t. The ability to record individual camera feeds to internal M.2 storage and automatically sync those media with Dropbox or Google Drive is a game changer. And with hardware presets, all you need is an Ethernet connection to stream directly to YouTube.
According to Sergio Sasso, technical coordinator at The Black Studio Live, the ATEM’s built-in audio mixer with 6-band EQ, compressor and limiter provides flexibility for a small live production setup.

AMS also created a content archive, as well as creative content for Forward Racing’s social media including Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Central to this editing workflow was a Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro and DaVinci Resolve Studio post-production software for editing and finishing. Both vertical and horizontal video can be captured natively in-camera, allowing AMS to produce content reels on-site and post them on the team’s social media while they are at the circuit.
