SAMYANG announced the SAMYANG V-AF 20mm T1.9, a compact cinema AF lens “V-AF” wide-angle 20mm lens, to be released on July 19, 2024. Kenko Tokina will release the lens in Japan, and the estimated market price is 103,400 yen approximately $650.
The SAMYANG V-AF Series is a series of compact and lightweight cine autofocus lenses designed for all video creators, from individual creators and small productions to filmmakers.
SAMYANG V-AF 20mm Product Features
Unified form factor, optimized for gimbals and drones
The V-AF series has a consistent compact size. With a diameter of Φ72.2mm and weighing only 280g, from wide-angle to telephoto, it fits most riggings. In addition, the focus ring position and center of gravity of the lens are unified to minimize the need to change equipment when changing lenses. There is no need to rebalance the lens when it is mounted on a gimbal or drone.
Supports high-definition 8K video and achieves consistent color tones
The V-AF lenses are designed to support high resolutions beyond 4K, all the way up to 8K. In addition, the color tone is unified in accordance with SAMYANG’s CCI standard, so post-production time is reduced even when shooting with multiple V-AF lenses interchangeably. This lens’s available mount is the Sony E-Mount.
Quiet and fast autofocus & smooth manual focusing
The Linear STM motor works precisely in conjunction with the camera to achieve fast and quiet autofocus. The V-AF lens also features a “Linear MF mode” that allows you to determine the focus position according to the rotation angle (300°) of the focus ring. Furthermore, by installing the separately sold “CineKit” or “Manual Focus adapter”, more precise focusing is possible.
Compatible with rear seat filters
The V-AF 20mm T1.9 does not have a filter thread on the front and cannot accommodate filters, so it has a filter holder on the rear that can accommodate sheet filters.
LED tally lamp for checking recording status
The lens is equipped with two LED tally lamps, one on the front and one on the side, that display the shooting status. When recording starts, the color of the lamp changes from green to red, allowing you to check whether recording is in progress.
Equipped with an accessory mount for expansion
The V-AF series is equipped with electronic contacts for expansion on the front of the lens, allowing the attachment of the separately sold accessory “V-AF Manual Focus Adapter” to expand functionality.
Custom switch and focus hold button on the side of the lens
The custom switch allows you to change the focus ring operation mode between MF and aperture adjustment by flipping the switch. The switch settings can be changed using the dedicated software “Lens Manager.”
The focus hold button can be used for the focus hold function (in AF mode) and the focus save function (in MF mode). It is also possible to assign functions such as “Eye AF” from the camera body.
Weather sealing
To protect the lens from rain, snow, dust, etc., a dust-proof and drip-proof structure is adopted with weather sealing in a total of six places.
