Fujifilm announced the new FUJINON 14-100mm Duvo Portable broadcasting zoom lens. This lens combines cinematic imaging with broadcast lens operability. The lens is due out in late September and the price is yet to be determined.
The FUJINON HZK14-100mm is a lens that uses a dual format system compatible with two large sensors, covering a range from the wide-angle 14mm to the medium telephoto 100mm, while boasting high mobility with a total length of 266.9mm and weight of 2.54kg, making it the smallest and lightest in the series.
The FUJINON HZK14-100mm is a wide-angle zoom lens that is often combined with Steadicam or cranes. Taking advantage of its compact size and light weight, it enables bird’s-eye view shots of the entire stage at live music concerts, or realistic shots of athletes at sporting events.
Fujifilm will continue to leverage the advanced optical technology it has cultivated over the years to develop and provide high-performance broadcast lenses, cinema camera lenses, and accessories to meet the diverse needs of video production sites.
Main Features of the DUVO PORTABLE
Currently, the broadcasting industry is increasingly using cameras equipped with large sensors in order to create immersive image expressions that take advantage of bokeh and high dynamic range. Cinema camera lenses are mainstream for this type of shooting, but these have limited zoom ratios and require dedicated personnel for focus operation, resulting in operations that are different from those in the broadcasting industry.
That’s why Fujifilm has developed the Duvo Series, which combines cinema-like image expression with the operability of a broadcast lens. In March of last year, they released the box-type “FUJINON HZK25-1000mm,” followed by the portable standard zoom lens “FUJINON HZK24-300mm” in March of this year, and now they’ve added the new wide-angle zoom lens “FUJINON HZK14-100mm” to their lineup, establishing a system that covers focal lengths from 14mm wide angle to 1000mm telephoto.
Covering a wide range of focal lengths while remaining compact and lightweight
With a 7.1x zoom that covers a wide-angle 14mm to medium telephoto 100mm in one lens, and a compact and lightweight body with a total length of 266.9mm and weight of 2.54kg, this lens offers high mobility. By using the expander built into the lens, the focal length can be shifted to 21mm to 150mm, which is 1.5 times longer on the telephoto side. Even from a long distance, you can capture the subject at the intended size, and the minimum shooting distance of 0.6m (0.28m from the front lens) allows for impressive close-up photography.
Dual format system compatible with two large sensors
Normally compatible with Super 35mm sensors. By using the built-in expander, the image circle can be expanded by 1.5 times, allowing it to be used with cameras equipped with sensors equivalent to full-frame 35mm. When combined with a camera equipped with a sensor equivalent to full-frame 35mm, it allows shooting with an angle of view equivalent to that of a Super 35mm sensor while maximizing the excellent optical performance.
Cinematic image expression that makes use of beautiful bokeh
By using a large-diameter aspherical lens and a Super ED lens that have been polished with high precision, various aberrations are thoroughly suppressed, and optical performance equivalent to 8K is demonstrated. It is possible to achieve high-definition and natural depiction by suppressing ghosting, flare, and color bleeding. It has a brightness of T2.9 from the wide-angle end of 14mm to 75mm, and allows freedom of setting even in low-light environments. By adjusting the texture of the bokeh, a natural blending of the focal plane into the background is achieved, realizing cinematic image expression.
Supports operation with various accessories
Equipped with the same drive unit as portable broadcast zoom lenses, it can be operated in the same way as broadcast lenses using zoom demand and focus demand. It also supports multi-camera operation with multiple cameras, supporting efficient video production. The focus ring has a gear pitch of 0.8M, so standard video production accessories such as follow focus and external motors can be used. The front frame diameter is 114mm, so lens hoods and matte boxes can also be used.
Equipped with functions to support comfortable shooting and editing
The Fujinon 14-100mm Duvo Portable comes equipped with “Breathing Compensation Technology” that automatically corrects breathing that occurs when focusing. It also features “Remote Back Focus (RBF)” that adjusts the flange back remotely via the camera or robotic control panel. That function allows for highly accurate adjustment from a studio or broadcast vehicle. In addition, it supports “ZEISS eXtended Data,” and lens metadata at the time of shooting can be output externally, making editing more efficient.
