DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Announced

DJI announced a new generation action camera, the Osmo Action 5 Pro.

The latest generation of DJI’s popular Osmo Action camera series is packed with industry-first features that rival professional cameras, including 13.5 stops of dynamic range, four hours of battery life, and built-in subject centering and tracking.

Osmo Action 5 Pro is said to set a new standard in video quality for capturing the action on any adventure, whether at sea or in the mountains, under the sun or in the snow.

13.5 stops of dynamic range for outstanding image quality

The Osmo Action 5 Pro is the first action camera with specs that rival those of professional cameras, featuring a next-generation 1/1.3” sensor with 2.4 μm pixel size and up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range.

It allows shooting in 10-bit D-Log M and supports high brightness displays in Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), and also supports 4K/60fps high dynamic range low light video capture, improving overall image quality by capturing intricate details in the shadows without overexposing the highlights.

In addition, the SuperNight mode with AI noise reduction algorithm is said to capture clearer and sharper images even in extremely low-light environments.

Long-lasting battery life of 4 hours for extended shooting time

Osmo Action 5 Pro delivers up to four hours of continuous use on a single battery, 50% longer battery life than its predecessor. This new innovation is made possible by a low-power 4nm chip, a large-capacity 1950 mAh battery, and DJI’s proprietary algorithms that optimize power consumption.

While the industry average battery life for action cameras is about two hours, the DJI 30W USB-C Quick Charger can record up to 3.6 hours of video in low-temperature environments as low as -20°C. In addition, with the DJI 30W USB-C Quick Charger, you can get two hours of video with just 15 minutes of charging.

The action camera industry’s first subject centering/tracking function

Osmo Action 5 Pro is the industry’s first action camera with built-in subject centering and tracking, allowing you to use tracking without a gimbal. With a high-performance 4nm chip and machine learning algorithms, the camera intelligently detects the subject’s position and flexibly adjusts the composition to keep the subject centered in every frame.

Optimized for underwater photography

Osmo Action 5 Pro is waterproof to a depth of 20m without a case, the best in the industry. It has a built-in color temperature sensor that captures the color of the water as it is. You can also set the camera to automatically start recording when it goes underwater and stop recording when it comes out of the water.

It also has a built-in pressure gauge that records depth, dive time and altitude data to ensure user safety. It is EN13319 certified and meets the international certification standards for diving accessories.

Larger dual OLED high brightness touch screen

Osmo Action 5 Pro features large tempered glass touch screens on the front and back that have been upgraded to OLED high brightness displays. With an excellent peak brightness of 1000cd/㎡, it improves the comfort of shooting during the day. The bezel width has been narrowed to increase the screen size while keeping the size of the camera body the same. The screen-to-body ratio has increased by 16% from the previous model.

Compatible with DJI OsmoAudio connectivity ecosystem

Osmo Action 5 Pro can connect directly to the DJI Mic 2 transmitter via Bluetooth for audio recording at a very high sampling rate. This setup delivers studio-quality sound without the need for a receiver. Enabling the built-in microphone audio backup allows you to record ambient sounds for a richer, more immersive sound.

Use the Mimo app to shoot and edit smartly

Connect Osmo Action 5 Pro to the DJI Mimo app via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to quickly preview the camera view, adjust settings, and edit footage.

New features in the Mimo app include live photo capture, 4K high-resolution frame capture, reproduction of D-Log M flat color profile for more consistent color adjustments, and video export in 4K/120fps with an aspect ratio of 4:3. You can also download photos and videos from your DJI camera in the background while performing other tasks on your smartphone.
