CP+2025
At the Cosina booth at CP+2025, the ZEISS Otus 1.4/50 made its debut. This lens is due to be fully released in May of 2025. ZEISS Otus ML lenses are a series of new optical designs inspired by the Otus series of DSLR lenses, considered best-in-class manual prime lenses, bringing ZEISS’s high optical performance to Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount and Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras.
High-precision optical and mechanical design deliver exceptional sharpness, vibrant colors and ZEISS’ unique three-dimensional depiction power to capture every detail, enabling you to capture the moment exactly as you see it, feel it, and imagine it.

ZEISS Otus 1.4/50 Details
The first in the Otus ML series, the Otus ML 1.4/50, is a large aperture standard lens with excellent optical quality.
In addition to suppressing distortion and chromatic aberration with aspherical design, ZEISS T coating suppresses unwanted reflections within the lens, minimizing lens flare and enhancing image contrast and color fidelity. With an open F value of 1.4, it is not only capable of dealing with difficult low-light conditions, but also allows you to control the depth of field to elegantly separate the main subject from the background, and features soft and harmonious bokeh with 10 aperture blades.
The Otus ML 1.4/50’s full metal mechanism features outstanding quality with first-class craftsmanship. The precisely designed mechanism provides a unique physical sensation of being one with the equipment through the act of manual focusing. The knurled metal focus ring has a wide rotation angle of approximately 260° from infinity to the minimum shooting distance of 0.5m, allowing for millimeter-level accurate focusing.
Controls and Construction
The aperture ring can be operated in 1/3 stops (1 stop for F11 to F16) by clicking, and a switchable declick mechanism allows for stepless aperture adjustment. Additionally, the lens mount is equipped with a blue silicone seal, and each moving part has a special internal sealing treatment that protects it from dust and water droplets, ensuring reliability even under harsh conditions.
The lens consists of 14 elements in 11 groups. By appropriately using special glasses such as two aspherical lenses and anomalous partial dispersion glass, high optical quality is achieved. The floating focus mechanism also ensures that the overall lens length does not change even when the focus is adjusted, achieving uniform image quality across the entire focusing distance range.

Designed for Mirrorless Cameras
Despite its uncompromising optical and mechanical design, its lightweight and compact design compared to the Otus for DSLRs enhances mobility when shooting with a mirrorless camera. The optical system is optimized for Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Canon RF-mount, and is equipped with electronic contacts that comply with each mount standard. By enabling communication with the body, it also supports Exif information and various shooting assist functions.
Each mount comes with a metal lens shade and a cushioned pouch for storing lenses with the ZEISS logo.
