Leitz Cine has expanded its THALIA 65 family of ultra-large format lenses with a new ultra-wide 20mm focal length “20mm THALIA 65” prime lens.
Tailored to the needs of 65mm film and digital 65 formats, the 11 focal lengths of the THALIA 65 family offer elegant options for cinematographers looking to push the boundaries of their images. Ranging from 20mm to 180mm, the lenses are based on Leica’s S medium format glass, known for its superior portraits, rich colors and beautiful skin tones. The lineup now expands with the Leitz 20mm THALIA 65 Prime.
The full set of Leitz THALIA 65 prime lenses is incredibly dynamic, with three 2:1 macro lenses (24mm, 55mm, 120mm) and a unique Thalia-T 90mm inspired by the soft-focus qualities of 1930s Leica Thambar lenses. With a uniform 95mm front diameter and matched focus/iris ring positions, these lenses are among the smallest and lightest professional lenses in the 65mm format. All THALIA 65 lenses feature /i technology, making them mount interchangeable between PL and LPL.
The Leitz THALIA 65 lens has been used in many large format cinema productions, including:
- Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (DP: Philippe Rousselot, ASC, AFC)
- Lisey’s Story (DP: Darius Khondji, ASC, AFC)
- The Little Mermaid (DP: Dion Beebe, ASC, ACS)
- Radioactive (DP: Anthony Dod Mantle, ASC, BSC, DFF)
