Fujifilm Corporation has developed the FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD. This new lens is a highly mobile and versatile 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lens that covers everything from wide-angle to telephoto in one lens.
The UA22x4.8 is a zoom lens compatible with broadcast cameras equipped with 2/3-inch sensors, and has a compact, lightweight body measuring approximately 252mm in length and weighing approximately 2.2kg, achieving a wide-angle of 4.8mm and a high magnification of 22x. It is said to have functionality that makes it useful in a variety of situations, including news reporting where mobility is required, studio shooting, and sports broadcasts where a sense of realism is required.
The company plans to release the “UA22x4.8” as a new addition to its lineup of 4K-compatible broadcast zoom lenses in spring 2026. The “UA22x4.8” will be exhibited as a reference at IBC2025, the international broadcasting equipment exhibition to be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from September 12 to 15, 2025.
The Fujinon Broadcast Lens Series
In professional filming locations such as news reporting, studio photography, and sports broadcasts, there is a steady demand for versatile zoom lenses that can cover everything from wide-angle to telephoto with a single lens.
To meet these needs, the company released the FUJINON UA18x5.5BERD (hereinafter referred to as “UA18x5.5”) broadcast zoom lens in 2017. The newly developed UA22x4.8 is a new zoom lens that inherits the UA18x5.5’s features of being “compact, lightweight, and having a wide range of focal lengths, including a wide-angle range,” while further enhancing its functionality and expressive power.
Thanks to improvements in lens processing technology and a design that combines robustness and lightness, the new lens weighs just 2.2 kg, minimizing the weight and size increase from the previous UA18x5.5. This reduces the burden of long-term shooting when carrying the camera on your shoulder.
Additionally, compared to the UA18x5.5’s focal length of 5.5mm to 100mm, the UA22x4.8 supports a wider range of focal lengths, from 4.8mm to 106mm. The wider wide-angle range makes it suitable for capturing immersive scenes in small indoor spaces and sports events.
FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD Main Features
A highly mobile lens with a wide-angle 4.8mm and high-magnification 22x zoom
This high-magnification 22x zoom lens covers everything from a dynamic 4.8mm wide-angle shot to a 106mm telephoto range. It can capture a wide variety of scenes with just one lens, making it a powerful tool for a variety of shooting situations, including news reports, studio shoots, and live sports broadcasts.
With a total length of approximately 252mm and a weight of approximately 2.2kg, the lightweight and compact design makes it easy to carry and reduces the burden of shoulder-carrying the camera when shooting.
High optical performance compatible with 4K throughout the entire zoom range
By utilizing the company’s proprietary optical simulation technology, high-quality 4K image quality is achieved across the entire zoom range by suppressing all aberrations, such as loss of resolution at the periphery of the screen and color bleeding.
In addition, the company’s proprietary multi-layer coating process, “HT-EBC (High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating),” enhances light transmittance and color reproduction. Utilizing these characteristics, it is possible to suppress blackout and whiteout, enabling “HDR (High Dynamic Range)” shooting that is close to what the naked eye sees. Rich gradation is reproduced even in scenes with extreme contrasts between light and dark, such as a stadium at dusk.
Equipped with functions to support comfortable shooting
The FUJINON UA22x4.8BERD allows for close-up shooting with a minimum focusing distance of 0.4m across the entire zoom range. Combined with a wide-angle of 4.8mm, it expands the scope of shooting in limited spaces. It comes standard with a 16-bit encoder that can output high-resolution lens data such as zoom and focus position information. It can be linked to a variety of systems, such as a virtual studio that combines CG images with live footage.
