Blackmagic Design and Apple Immersive Video Partnership Details

Blackmagic Design has announced an end-to-end workflow for creating cinematic Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro.

As announced again June 11 (Japan time) at the Apple Vision Pro event, Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive will be available from select Blackmagic Design companies later this year. The DaVinci Resolve update mentioned above will also be released later this year.

Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive is the world’s first consumer camera system designed to capture Apple Immersive Video, an entirely new storytelling format that puts the viewer in the center of the action with 8K, 180 degree 3D video and spatial audio. Blackmagic Design also announced an update to its industry leading post production software, DaVinci Resolve, which for the first time will enable professional filmmakers to edit Apple Immersive Video. Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive and a new version of DaVinci Resolve with support for Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro will be released later this year.

World’s first consumer camera for Apple Immersive Video

Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive features a custom fixed lens system designed specifically for Apple Immersive Video. The sensors feature 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye, pixel perfect synchronization and an incredible 16 stops of dynamic range, allowing cinematographers to record stereoscopic 3D immersive cinema content at 90 frames per second in a single file. The custom lens system is designed specifically for URSA Cine’s large format image sensor and is manufactured to read and store extremely accurate positional data. This immersive lens data is mapped, calibrated and stored for each eye and is then saved into Blackmagic RAW files for use in post production.

The world’s first editing software for Apple Immersive Video

The updated DaVinci Resolve includes powerful new features that provide a comprehensive workflow for creating immersive videos for Apple Vision Pro. It enables editing Apple Immersive Video shot with the URSA Cine Immersive camera. The new immersive video viewer allows you to pan, tilt and roll clips to view them on a 2D monitor, or use Apple Vision Pro for a more immersive editing experience. Transitions rendered in Apple Vision Pro can be bypassed using FCP XML metadata for clean master files. Export presets allow quick output to a package that can be viewed directly in Apple Vision Pro.

Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive is designed for all your high end film needs.

The well-balanced body is made of a sturdy magnesium alloy with a lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate finish, allowing for quick movement on location. It also comes equipped with 12G-SDI output, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio and more. The fold-out monitor features a large 5″ HDR touchscreen on one side and a color status LCD on the other. To the right of the camera is an assistant’s station with a second 5″ HDR touchscreen, so staff can work around the camera without needing an external monitor.

The rear of the camera features an 8 pin Lemo power connector that supports both 24V and 12V power, so it’s easy to use the camera with your existing power supplies, batteries and accessories. Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive includes a 250W power supply and B-mount battery plate so you can use a wide range of high voltage batteries from manufacturers like IDX, Blueshape, Core SWX, BEBOB and more. Other features include a top handle, antennas for high speed Wi-Fi, a base plate, 24V power supply and a high voltage B-mount battery plate for quick setup.

Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive features 8TB of high performance networked storage that can be recorded direct to the included Blackmagic Media Module and synced in real time to Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve’s media bin. This means customers can record over two hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive Blackmagic RAW and it also allows editors to start editing remotely around the world while the shot is still being shot.

The new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format is designed to make working with immersive video simple and easy throughout post production and also supports worldwide media synchronization with Blackmagic products. Blackmagic RAW files store camera metadata, lens data, white balance, digital slate information and custom LUTs so customers maintain image consistency on set and in post production.

Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive is the first consumer digital film camera to feature super fast and high performance Cloud Store technology. This high speed storage means customers can record for hours at the highest resolutions and frame rates with direct access to files over high speed 10G Ethernet. In addition to the original camera media created as they record, the camera also supports the creation of small H.264 proxy files that can be uploaded to the Blackmagic Cloud within seconds so the media is available in real time in the studio.

The Blackmagic Media Dock accelerates post production workflows by making it faster and easier to start editing and perform color correction. It can mount up to three Blackmagic Media Modules for high speed access to media from multiple URSA Cine Immersive cameras simultaneously. With four high speed 10G Ethernet ports, you can connect up to four individual editing workstations, making it extremely fast even when multiple users connect at the same time.
