Sony will release the FE 20-70mm F4 G, a standard zoom lens for still images and movies that covers a wide zoom range from 20mm to 70mm, while being compact and lightweight, as a 35mm full-frame compatible αE mount lens in February 2023. It will be released on the 10th. The price is open, and the estimated market price is around 185,000 yen including tax.
Introducing FE 20-70mm F4 G
The FE 20-70mm F4 G is a standard zoom lens that covers an ultra-wide-angle range of 20mm to 70mm, and achieves brightness with a maximum aperture of F4 over the entire zoom range. We also succeeded in making the lens smaller and lighter (length 99mm, weight approx. 488g), and when combined with a mirrorless single-lens camera body, it demonstrates descriptive power in various scenes from ultra-wide angle to medium telephoto.
In addition to 2 advanced aspherical AA lenses, 1 aspherical lens, 3 ED (extra-low dispersion) glass elements, and 1 ED aspherical lens, this lens provides excellent correction of chromatic and spherical aberrations. The 9-blade circular diaphragm and optimized spherical aberration enable the beautiful and soft bokeh that is unique to G lenses. The shortest shooting distance is 0.3-0.25m in AF, 0.25m in MF, and the maximum shooting magnification is 0.39x. As a result, in addition to shooting small flowers and food, it is possible to take impressive shots that make use of blur in a shallow field of view.
Sony’s unique XD linear motor has greatly improved thrust efficiency compared to the previous model “FE 24-70mm F4 ZA OSS”, and the AF speed has been successfully increased by about 60% compared to the conventional model. In addition, the tracking performance for moving objects has been improved by about 2 times.
In addition to the easy-to-use button position design for both video and still image shooting, it is equipped with an iris lock switch that prevents unintentional operation during shooting, an aperture ring switch, and a custom-assignable focus hold button.
