Sigma will release the world’s first full-frame F1.8 zoom lens, the SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN II, on June 30, 2024. The suggested retail price is $1350 US Dollars.
As a pioneer of large aperture zoom lenses, Sigma has succeeded in commercializing the world’s first full-frame F1.8 zoom lens. In addition to unprecedented brightness, it achieves image quality comparable to that of a prime lens across the entire zoom range, as well as high-speed, high-precision AF. It also has excellent functionality and operability. Sigma prides their craftsmanship from their Aizu facility, where the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II is being constructed.
SIGMA 28-45mm F1.8 DG DN II – The world’s first full-frame F1.8 zoom lens
In development, Sigma succeeded in developing the world’s first full-frame zoom lens with a constant maximum aperture of F1.8. Furthermore, in order to adapt to any shooting scene, Sigma additionally pursued convenience by keeping the weight to less than 1kg, with an inner zoom mechanism, a minimum shooting distance of 30cm over the entire zoom range, and a filter size of φ82mm, making it easy to handle and set up when shooting handheld.
Shoots at a maximum aperture of F1.8 across the entire zoom range
Sigma created the world’s first full-frame zoom lens with a constant F1.8 aperture. Until now, the large F1.8 aperture has been the privilege of prime lenses for full-frame cameras, but this lens allows you to enjoy the abundant light that is captured by the large aperture and the large, beautiful bokeh at any angle of view.
Inner zoom mechanism
The zoom mechanism uses an inner zoom. The overall length does not change with zoom operation, making it easy to handle when shooting handheld. In addition to being highly stable when mounted on a tripod or gimbal, the structure is designed to prevent dust and water droplets from entering.
Consistent and high close-up shooting capabilities
The minimum shooting distance is a constant 30cm across the entire zoom range, and at the telephoto end, the maximum shooting magnification is 1:4, providing excellent close-up shooting capabilities. This makes it useful for close-up compositions and shooting in tight spaces where it is difficult to get close to the subject, without having to worry about changes in the minimum shooting distance caused by zooming.
High build quality packed into a body weighing less than 1kg
While ensuring the necessary rigidity and durability for a reliable photographic tool, the sophisticated optical and mechanical design has achieved a weight of less than 1kg and a highly versatile filter size of φ82mm. This realizes world-first specifications while also achieving portability and convenience.
High optical performance comparable to that of a prime lens
It thoroughly corrects all aberrations throughout the entire zoom range, and has high optical performance comparable to that of a prime lens. It is designed to reduce flare and ghosting, including the use of nanoporous coating, and can produce clear images even in backlit environments. In addition, it also suppresses focus breathing, so the expressive power of an F1.8 zoom lens can be fully utilized in video shooting.
High-quality expression achieved through superior optical performance
Five SLD glass elements and three aspherical lenses are effectively positioned to effectively correct various aberrations. Axial chromatic aberration, which is particularly noticeable with large-diameter lenses, is thoroughly suppressed. From the sharp focal plane to the large, beautiful bokeh areas, clear depictions with reduced coloring are achieved.
Designed to reduce focus breathing
The lens is designed to suppress focus breathing, which minimizes changes in the angle of view caused by focus shifting across the entire zoom range, enabling natural focus shifting during video shooting.
Designed to reduce flare and ghosting
Regarding flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, the company has implemented measures to deal with all types of incident light conditions based on cutting-edge simulation technology. In addition, the company has applied a nanoporous coating and super multi-layer coating to suppress flare and ghosting to the utmost. The high backlight resistance allows for clear, sharp shooting under any lighting conditions.
High-speed AF and other functions to support comfortable shooting
In addition to high-precision, high-speed AF using the HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), it is weather-resistant with a dust-proof and splash-proof construction and a water-repellent and dirt-resistant coating, and is equipped with a full range of functions such as an aperture ring and AFL button. The easy-to-operate focus ring allows you to enjoy delicate and comfortable MF shooting.
Linear motor HLA
The AF actuator uses a linear motor HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), which achieves high-speed AF with excellent driving precision. The motor is very quiet, so you can shoot videos without worrying about noise.
Comfortable manual focus
The high-resolution, by-wire driven focus ring with optimal torque settings enables delicate focus operation. Taking advantage of the shallow depth of field of F1.8, you can enjoy video shooting using focus shifting or careful manual focusing. For the L-mount, the linear focus rotation angle can be set from 90° to 720°.
Equipped with aperture click ring
The lens comes with an aperture ring, an aperture ring click switch, and an aperture ring lock switch, allowing you to adjust the aperture to suit your shooting needs.
Equipped with two AFL buttons
The AFL buttons are located in two locations, and can be assigned any function. By positioning them on the side and on the top, the buttons can be easily operated whether the device is held horizontally or vertically.
Dust-proof, water-resistant, and dirt-resistant coating
In addition to the dust-proof and weather-resistant body, the front of the lens is coated with a water-repellent and dirt-resistant coating, allowing you to shoot with confidence even in harsh outdoor environments.
Includes a lockable flower-shaped hood
A flower-shaped hood is included. It has a locking mechanism, so it can be attached securely.
