Cosina will release a new Sony E-mount lens, the NOKTON 75mm F1.5 Aspherical, under the Voigtlander brand in July 2024. The suggested retail price is approximately $940 (tax included).
The new Voigtlander NOKTON 75mm F1.5 Aspherical is a large aperture manual focus medium telephoto lens exclusively for Sony E-mount. It covers a full-size image circle and its optical design is optimized for the image sensor of Sony mirrorless cameras.
This lens is equipped with electronic contacts, so the lens usage conditions are reflected in the Exif information of the shooting data, and by turning the settings on/off on the body, it is possible to electronically correct peripheral illumination, chromatic aberration of magnification, and distortion aberration.
In addition, since it has a built-in distance encoder, it is compatible with models equipped with a 5-axis in-body image stabilization function that uses information on the distance to the subject for shift shake correction. It is also possible to enlarge the viewfinder by operating the focus ring, making manual focusing easy.
The lens is made up of 7 elements in 6 groups, and is compact and has high performance despite its large aperture of F1.5. The use of aspherical lenses ensures excellent imaging performance even at maximum aperture.
The minimum shooting distance of this lens is 0.55m, and focusing is exclusively manual focus. The metal focus ring has a diamond pattern that provides excellent grip. It is stable even when mounting commercially available video focus gear, and one of its features is the silky operation feel that comes from the greased high-precision metal helicoid that can withstand severe focusing even at full aperture.
The aperture is mechanically controlled by a direct connection to the operation ring, and is adjusted on the lens side, not the command dial on the camera. The aperture ring has a click switching mechanism, which allows you to open and close the aperture steplessly without being affected by clicks when shooting video or finely adjusting the focus depth.
The 12-blade aperture is nearly circular, and the large F1.5 aperture and slightly longer focal length work together to create a photographic effect that is ideal for “greatly blurring the background,” and also renders out-of-focus areas of point light sources in a neat shape. This lens comes with a dedicated metal screw-in lens hood.
