InterBEE2024
Sony at InterBEE 2024 will exhibit firmware updates for its “VENICE 2,” “FX6,” “FX3,” “FX30,” and “BURANO” Cinema Line series cameras. Let’s take a closer look at the different updates from Sony coming out for each Cinema Line camera.
VENICE 2 Version 4.0
“VENICE 2” Version 4.0 is scheduled to be available after August 2025. The main features to be added are as follows.
- Supports the exposure management tool “EL Zone System.” The EL Zone System is a tool that manages exposure by displaying exposure values using STOP instead of IRE values. This function is provided in addition to the existing exposure management tool on the “VENICE 2.”
- Supports user frame line color settings. By supporting color settings for frame lines created with the frame line tool or on the device itself, customizability and visibility are improved.
After Version 4.0, Version 5.0 is scheduled to be released in 2026 and Version 6.0 in 2027.
FX6 Version 6.0
Cinema Line camera “FX6” Version 6.0 is scheduled to be available from February 2026. The main features to be added are as follows:
- Adds a “BIG6” UI menu. Similar to CineAlta cameras such as “VENICE”, “VENICE 2” and “BURANO”, it allows you to check and operate the six most important items for shooting.
- By adding a black border to the monitor, the display method has been changed so that the camera status display does not overlap the captured image.
- Blackmagic RAW recording using Blackmagic Design’s Video Assist recorder is now supported on the FX6’s SDI RAW output. The FX9 can record Blackmagic RAW by using the separate XDCA-FX9.
FX3 Version 7.0, FX30 Version 6.0
“FX3” Version 7.0 and “FX30” Version 6.0 will be available from September 2025. This software will enable operation with a consistent user interface and operation method across many Cinema Line cameras. The main features that will be added are as follows:
- Adds a “BIG6” UI menu. Similar to CineAlta cameras such as “VENICE”, “VENICE 2” and “BURANO”, it allows you to check and operate the six most important items for shooting.
- Adds anamorphic de-squeeze of 1.5x. This new ratio brings new flexibility in lens selection to productions where anamorphic lenses are increasingly being used.
- Blackmagic RAW recording using Blackmagic Design’s Video Assist recorder is now compatible with the HDMI RAW output of the FX3 and FX30.
BURANO Version 2.0
- This will be the first time in Japan that BURANO Version 2.0, which will be available from March 2025 onwards, will be exhibited. Version 2.0 includes updates such as a new recording format, a new anamorphic desqueeze 1.8x, and improved monitoring functions.
