Cosina decided to release the Voigtlander brand VM mount lens, the “NOKTON 40mm F1.2 II VM” on June 20, 2025. Other focal lengths for the Voigtlander NOKTON F1.2 II series was announced previously, and released on May 23, 2025. Other details are available in that article. The Voigtlander NOKTON 40mm F1.2 II VM now has a release date.
NOKTON is the name given to Voigtlander’s large aperture lenses, characterized by an aperture value of F1.5 or less. When the first Nokton was released in the 1950s, these lenses were positioned as lenses that enabled shooting in low light conditions. However, in today’s world where image sensors have become increasingly sensitive, the advantage of large aperture lenses is that they can be used to create a large bokeh effect using the aperture stop.

The main changes to this product are that the filter attachment part at the tip of the lens has been changed from silver to black to tighten up the design, and the weight has been reduced from 315g to 267g by reviewing the structure.
In addition, the shape of the bayonet for attaching the hood at the tip of the lens has also been changed. This makes it easier to determine the slit position for the newly designed dedicated hood (sold separately), and allows for reverse attachment when stored. Two types of dedicated hoods are available: the LH-14, which has a shorter overall length, and the LH-15, which has a longer overall length and is a vintage style, so you can choose according to your preference.
