Lomography announced the launch of orders for the 35mm, 55mm, and 80.5mm lenses of the new “Joseph Petzval Focus-coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens Series,” a new lens series that will bring new expression to video production. Preorders in most countries opened from July 23, 2025.
Lomography Petzval Lineup
- Joseph Petzval 55 mm f/1.7
- Joseph Petzval 80.5 mm f/1.9
- Joseph Petzval 35 mm f/2
- Set of 3 lenses (35mm, 55mm, 80.5mm)
Lomography developed the Joseph Petzval Focus-coupled Bokeh Control Art Lens series, an evolution of the legendary Petzval Art Lens. Available for Sony E, Nikon Z, and Canon RF mounts, the lens is designed to bring about a new era of expression in photography and videography.
The new series will have a lineup of five focal lengths, including the existing 55mm and 80.5mm, as well as the newly developed 27mm, 35mm, and 135mm. Based on the portrait lens invented by Joseph Petzval in 1840, it has been redesigned for modern photography and video expression.
Main features
- A series with five focal lengths: In addition to the existing 55mm and 80.5mm, we have newly developed 27mm, 35mm, and 135mm.
- Lens precision optimized for videography: Uniform gear positions at all focal lengths, clickless control ring and follow focus support seamlessly integrate into video production workflows.
- Creative and distinctive depiction: Gentle lens flare and warm, veil-like glare further accentuate the sharp center, distinctive swirling bokeh, and high contrast.
- Focus-linked bokeh control: Focus-linked technology means no focus shift occurs even when you change the level of bokeh, allowing you to smoothly control the bokeh in any scene.

Petzval’s heritage and new-generation imaging power
The new series inherits the painterly “swirly bokeh” characteristic of Petzval lenses. While maintaining the sharp center and soft peripheral depiction, the 7-step bokeh control ring allows you to freely adjust the strength of the bokeh, adding depth and individuality to your photos and videos.
When shooting towards the light, it captures soft lens flares, and in highlights it captures a warm, soft, veil-like glare, allowing you to depict a dreamy atmosphere.
Fully compatible with video production workflows
This series is designed with a strong awareness of its use in videography. All five lenses have a focus throw of 180° and a unified gear position, ensuring full compatibility with follow focus systems. This minimizes the need to readjust the rig when changing lenses, achieving an efficient shooting flow.
The camera body is made from sleek black aluminum, and the focus and aperture rings are clickless for smooth operation. It also features a 1/4-inch lens support for added stability when shooting handheld, on a gimbal, or on a tripod, providing smooth control and intuitive handling.

New technology that controls bokeh while maintaining focus
The greatest attraction of the series is its advanced focus linkage technology. This means that even if you operate the bokeh control ring to adjust the strength of the “swirl bokeh” while shooting, the focus position will not shift. You can seamlessly transition from sharp depiction to dramatic bokeh expression, or vice versa, without having to worry about focus shift, allowing creators to freely pursue their intended expression.

Product lineup and future developments
As the “next chapter of Petzval lenses,” the first two lenses to be released will be the “Joseph Petzval 55mm f/1.7” and “80.5mm f/1.9,” followed by the “Joseph Petzval 35mm f/2,” which boasts a minimum shooting distance of 40cm.
Furthermore, the 27mm and 135mm sizes are scheduled to be released sequentially, allowing users to enjoy the world of Petzval lenses across a wide range of focal lengths.
