Leica Camera announced the release of a limited edition model, the “Leica MA Hammertone.”
In Japan, a limited run of 100 units began sales on April 25, 2026 (Saturday), commemorating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Leica Ginza store.
What is the Leica MA?
The Leica MA is a mechanical rangefinder camera that returns to the essence of photography. Based on the film camera Leica MP, it has had its light meter removed and does not require batteries. The special limited edition model has “20 JAHRE” engraved on the left side of the front of the body to indicate the 20th anniversary, and the classic “Leica” logo is placed on the top cover.
This Leica MA commemorative version features a top cover and base plate with a gray “Hammertone” paint finish. This finish is known by its intricate texture. This textured coating, with its unique hammered look and handcrafted appearance, symbolizes durability, functionality, and precision.

This finish is extremely rare in Leica cameras, having been used in the past on models such as the “Leica MD” copying camera and the prototype “Leica “MS””. These models are now highly sought after by collectors due to their rarity.
20th Anniversary Exhibition
Additionally, the Leica Gallery Tokyo and Leica Professional Store Tokyo will host the 20th Anniversary Photo Exhibition, “Timeless Vision: Leica Store Ginza 20th Anniversary Exhibition.” The exhibit began April 26th (Sunday) and lasts to July 21st (Tuesday). This group exhibition features 35 works by 12 renowned photographers from Japan and abroad.
