Canon CINEMA EOS SYSTEM celebrates its 15th anniversary.
Canon announced that its “CINEMA EOS SYSTEM” video production equipment will celebrate its 15th anniversary in November 2026, having been launched in 2011 as a camera and lens system for professional video production, including movies. The CINEMA EOS SYSTEM is currently used in a wide range of video production fields, from movies, dramas, documentaries, live streaming, corporate videos, and even virtual production.

Standard in the Industry
For 15 years since launching the CINEMA EOS SYSTEM, Canon has been working closely with the film production industry, developing products and solutions that support various shooting styles and visual expressions. By leveraging its strength in developing both cameras and lenses in-house, Canon has pursued miniaturization and weight reduction of the entire system, superior operability, and increased freedom of visual expression. As a result, it has supported the creativity of filmmakers and contributed to the production of high-quality content.
Canon’s entry into the video production market was triggered by the attention the full HD video recording function of the “EOS 5D Mark II,” released in November 2008, received from video producers. To meet these market expectations, Canon conducted numerous interviews with video producers, thoroughly investigating their shooting styles, production workflows, and the functions and operability they required. They then leveraged their image creation and optical technologies cultivated in the field of photography, as well as imaging technologies honed through the development of a wide range of products, to challenge themselves to build a new system that supports the creative activities of video producers.
Started with the EOSC300
The first digital cinema camera, the “EOS C300” (released in January 2012), and the subsequent “EOS C500” (released in October 2012), enabled high-quality video production while remaining compact and lightweight, expanding opportunities for high-quality video expression to a wider range of video creators. Furthermore, the “EOS C500 Mark II” (released in December 2019) and “EOS C300 Mark III” (released in June 2020) adopted a modular configuration, enabling support for diverse shooting styles. In recent years, Canon has pursued further miniaturization with the “EOS R5 C” (released in March 2022) and “EOS C50” (released in November 2025), and has also proposed new video production methods, such as developing the Canon Virtual Production System to support virtual production.
Seventeen Camera Models and 53 Lenses
Throughout this history, Canon has offered 17 cinema camera models * and 53 cinema lens models * as part of its CINEMA EOS SYSTEM. The CINEMA EOS SYSTEM is also used in film and content production around the world, and has been featured in films such as “All the Empty Rooms,” which won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject in 2026, and “All That Breathes,” which won the top prize in the documentary category at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and the Grand Jury Prize in the World Cinema Documentary category at the Sundance Film Festival.
Canon states that it will continue to use feedback from the field as its starting point to further evolve its cameras, lenses, and solutions, and propose new possibilities for expression to video creators.
