ARRI announced the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme, a new camera that brings up to 8x higher frame rate (HFR) output to live production using the traditional SDI workflow.
Combine it with ARRI’s live production system “LPS-1,” and it delivers the emotions and drama of live entertainment in ARRI quality. Additionally, the system enables broadcasting in stunningly beautiful slow motion, expanding the creative options for producers and directors.
ARRI ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme Comes with Two Licenses
The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme permanently comes pre-installed with both the existing ALEXA 35 “High Speed License” and the new “High Frame Rate SDI License.” Combined with an ARRI LPS-1 fiber camera adapter and fiber base station (and standard slow-motion transmission servers such as SimplyLive or EVS), it outputs up to 8x HFR in HD and 2x HFR in UHD. Up to 4x HFR can be output through a single SDI connector; higher speeds are split across two SDI outputs.
Up to 330fps (frames per second), the camera can utilize its full 17-stop dynamic range, and in “sensor overdrive” mode, frame rates up to 480fps (frames per second) are possible with an 11-stop dynamic range.
Regardless of the frame rate selected for the slow-motion feed, the system simultaneously outputs a live feed for broadcast, allowing operators to switch between the program’s frame rate and HFR in real time. A unique phase blending function allows control over motion blur and shutter effects within the live feed.
ARRI MultiCam
ARRI MultiCam systems are being adopted by broadcasters as they transform the visual impact of live broadcasts, enhance production value, and enrich the viewer experience. A recent example is the Eurovision Song Contest, one of the world’s largest live broadcasts, which selected ARRI cameras in 2026 to reach new heights in image quality and creative color control.
With its Super 35 sensor, wide dynamic range, high sensitivity, and exceptional color fidelity, the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme delivers a base look that sets it apart. But this is just a starting point for complete creative freedom. Users can select looks from the “ARRI Look Library,” experiment with ARRI’s multicam looks, or build their own LUTs. No matter which look you choose, traditional live painting (image quality adjustments) remains available.
ARRI ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme – Perfect for Sports Broadcasting
Sports broadcasting is a primary use for the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme, benefiting all indoor, outdoor, individual, and team events. Its wide dynamic range captures high-contrast environments like winter sports with unprecedented clarity.
Furthermore, the cinematic image quality conveys all the emotions and drama of decisive moments in beautiful slow motion. Because dedicated high-speed cameras are not required, HFR content can maintain the same ARRI look as regular feeds, ensuring a consistent visual style for both live broadcasts and highlight reels.
Useful for Concerts
Another application is live concerts. The camera’s sensitivity and latitude capture the brilliance of even the most dazzling stage shows without compromise. At fashion events where maximum resolution is required, the 2x UHD output allows for slow-motion effects on runway turns while reproducing the color and texture of fabrics with unparalleled clarity. Accurate, beautifully tolerant skin tones in any situation are the trademark of the ALEXA camera.
Seamless integration is fundamental to ARRI multicam systems. When using the ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme in live production, everyone—from engineers and operators to shaders and directors—can work in their usual way. The LPS-1 fiber base station can connect directly to the slow-motion transmission server, and HFR signals can be acquired from the camera via a standard baseband workflow, making integration into live broadcasts easy. Super slow-motion replays are available instantly without the need to cue up recorded footage for playback.
The ALEXA 35 Live Xtreme will join ARRI’s current broadcast lineup, the ALEXA 35 Live. ALEXA 35 Live cameras sold from 2026 onwards can be upgraded to Xtreme functionality by purchasing High Speed and HFR SDI licenses from the ARRI online shop. ALEXA 35 Live cameras sold before 2026 will require a hardware upgrade through an ARRI service center. In addition, upgrade options are available to equip cinema-grade ALEXA 35 cameras for multi-camera broadcast applications.
