Avid plans to unveil its latest edition of Media Composer, symbolizing the evolution of its most respected product, at its booth (7.B59) at IBC2026. The event will be held in Amsterdam from September 11th to 14th, 2026.
With deeper integration with Avid Content Core and enhanced agent-based workflow intelligence, Media Composer will continue to be the most advanced, AI-enabled, cloud-connected editing platform on the market. Media Composer 2026.8 will also be released at the exhibition.

Avid Media Composer 2026.8 – The Evolution of Media Composer
This is a major update that will increase the flexibility and openness for editors and post-production teams to collaborate, grow, and scale across film, television, broadcast, education, and enterprise media production.
In addition to the enhancements in Media Composer 2026.8, Avid will unveil “Ready to Edit,” a next-generation agentic feature designed to accelerate content preparation by editors without disrupting the creative process. Visitors to the Avid booth will witness how enhanced integration between Media Composer and Avid Content Core allows media intelligence and workflow context to be directly incorporated into the editing process, as well as explore a new agent-based orchestration layer and integrated AI capabilities through a new Google Gemini panel. These developments demonstrate that Avid is not adding AI as a set of separate features, but rather integrating it into an intelligent and collaborative editing workflow.

“Media Composer 2026.8,” available from September 1st, expands collaboration and storage flexibility through “Media Composer Shared Projects,” addressing the growing trend of post-production teams working across multiple locations, storage environments, and production stages. New “Shared Projects” options, a more defined product lineup, and enhanced practical editing features reduce workflow friction, allowing editors to focus on creative decisions while choosing the collaboration model best suited to their needs.”
Expanding the proven standards of collaborative editing
Media Composer 2026.8 expands access to shared projects, allowing teams to collaborate more smoothly using Avid NEXIS, and for the first time, enterprise users can flexibly utilize shared storage environments other than NEXIS. Avid NEXIS, which provides the most integrated collaboration experience in large-scale environments, is now available for shared projects in Media Composer Standard tier and above. Meanwhile, the Enterprise tier enables fully supported and secure collaboration with certified third-party storage solutions.
As the latest initiative to evolve Avid into an even more open ecosystem, Shared Projects allows post-production teams to leverage their familiar workflows while more broadly connecting with the storage and infrastructure already deployed in their production environments. This expanded access means more editors can benefit from Avid NEXIS, the industry-renowned shared storage platform for collaboration in Media Composer. At the same time, enterprise customers can work securely in more distributed workflows and complex storage environments.
This new release also offers users a smoother way to advance their skills within the Media Composer family. The enhanced Media Composer First experience provides free entry points for aspiring editors, students, and emerging talent. Meanwhile, the Standard, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions are progressively adding more advanced professional features, AI-powered capabilities, and secure collaborative workflows. As user needs change, it will become easier to understand what’s included, what requires new licenses, and how to migrate to the features you need without leaving the Media Composer ecosystem.
Enhanced functionality accelerates editing work.
Avid Media Composer 2026.8 also includes practical enhancements that help editors accelerate demanding post-production workflows while completing more of the process within Media Composer. The new features are as follows:
- PhraseFindAI Multicam Auto-Cut
By selecting multiple camera segments based on the speaker and inserting cuts at speech boundaries, it speeds up editing while maintaining creative control and editing flexibility. - Transcript Tool
Integrate features such as undoing transcript edits, segment splitting, and continuous playback in the viewer into your workflow to improve review, story refinement, and transcript management. - OpenTimelineIO 2.0 Adapter Update
Improved test coverage and round-trip fidelity with third-party tools, enhancing interoperability and reducing friction when exchanging timelines between applications. - “New Features” window
Highlights new features and provides direct links to documentation and learning resources to help teams discover and adopt them more quickly.
Other enhancements include “bin column search selection,” “audio track swapping from subclips,” and “Titler+ keyframe correction,” resulting in improved search accuracy, audio flexibility, and timeline reliability. Furthermore, the API for automation and integration has also been expanded.
The evolution of Media Composer debuting at IBC2026.
In its “Ready to Edit” panel, Avid demonstrates how it’s expanding Media Composer beyond simply adding individual AI features, enabling a more intelligent and collaborative production workflow, along with deeper integration between Media Composer and Avid Content Core. Visitors to the booth can see how the Content Core panel within Media Composer allows editors to access, search, and use a wide range of media assets without leaving their familiar editing environment. The ability to publish Avid Content Core assets directly from Media Composer is also supported.
At IBC2026, Avid will also unveil its vision for a browser-based Media Composer workflow. The first step will be the introduction of web-based editing capabilities within Avid Content Core. This approach is not intended to replace the desktop version of Media Composer, but rather to extend the professional editing workflow, giving teams greater flexibility in reviewing, preparing, and working on content in a browser before moving on to full-scale editing.
