Inter BEE 2024 is upon us! To ease everyone into this massive event, we came up with a series of walking tours. This is the INTER BEE 2024 Cameras Tour!
This tour covers this year’s popular cameras for live production. ARRI’s “ALEXA 35 Live Multicam” and Canon’s “EOS C400” equipped with essential functions for live use are hot topics. Fujifilm’s HZK14-100mm is equipped with a PL mount and can also be used for live shooting. Be sure to check out the hot new camera products from Nikon, Sony, and Blackmagic Design.
INTER BEE 2024 Cameras Tour Stop 01: Nikon (#4401)
Nikon Z6III
Keep an eye out for the exhibit of the “Z6III,” which went on sale on July 12, 2024. Like the higher-end models Z9 and Z8, it supports internal recording of N-RAW and ProRes RAW HQ, as well as 6K60P. Despite being equipped with all the features inherited from higher-end models, the price on the official online store is 435,600 yen (tax included). It is the most notable model right now for its excellent cost performance in terms of features and price.
In addition to the Z6III, Nikon’s booth this year is packed with attractions, including the power zoom lens for filmmakers, the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ, and an opportunity to experience the Z9 firmware currently under development.
INTER BEE 2024 Cameras Tour Stop 02: Canon/Canon Japan (#5308)
“Canon EOS C400”
The appeal of the EOS C400 is that it packs the latest specs, such as a 6K full-size sensor, into a small body. Even when rigged and equipped with an external battery, it can be made quite small. In terms of recording, it uses Cinema RAW Light and supports 6K60P 12-bit RAW to CFexpress. Another hot topic is the three-level BaseISO setting, including a high sensitivity of 12800. It is equipped with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, which allows high-speed AF to instantly capture the subject. In addition, it supports tally linkage and return input, which allows cinema cameras to be used in live streaming, making it a truly modern cinema camera.
INTER BEE 2024 Cameras Tour Stop 03: Fujifilm (#7204)
“FUJINON HZK14-100mm” lens
The FUJINON HZK14-100mm is the first wide-angle zoom lens in the Duvo series. It is the second portable lens in the Duvo series, following the standard zoom lens “HZK 24-300mm” that covers focal lengths from 24-300mm.
The Duvo series is positioned between Fujifilm’s broadcast B4 style lenses and the PL mount cinema lens Premista, and is characterized by its ability to accommodate both cinema and broadcasting. The HZK14-100mm is also compact and lightweight, weighing just 2.54kg. It also features an aperture value of T2.9.
INTER BEE 2024 Cameras Tour Stop 04: Sony (#8108)
XDCAM Memory Camcorder “PXW-Z200”
The highlight of the Sony booth is the new Handycamcorder “PXW-Z200”, released for the first time in about six years. The dual ring system has been a big hit, and cameramen who often use full manual cameras have been clamoring for a triple ring system. The debate over composition, such as “evolution of technology such as subject recognition versus manual focus and zoom”, has also been a hot topic. What’s interesting is that it is compatible with the “Monitor & Control” app, which makes it convenient to operate the camera settings and check the recorded material.
INTER BEE 2024 Cameras Tour Stop 05 M-Tec JAPAN (Arri Distributor) (#8309)
ARRI ALEXA 35 Live
M-Tec JAPAN, the official domestic distributor of ARRI products, will exhibit at Inter BEE for the first time. The ARRI ALEXA35 Live will be on display for the first time in Japan. Cinema cameras are increasingly being chosen to shoot live music shows and live sports broadcasts overseas, and the ARRI ALEXA35 Live is compatible with such live multi-camera productions. The ALEXA 35’s 17-stop dynamic range and color expression will be available for live music shows and live sports broadcasts.
M-Tec will be exhibiting a wide range of products for the first time in Japan, including ARRI’s new cinema lens “Ensō” and Tiffen’s “Steadicam Axis.”
INTER BEE 2024 Cameras Tour Stop 06: Blackmagic Design (#8409)
“Blackmagic URSA Cine 17K 65”
The highlight of the Blackmagic Design booth is the display of the “URSA Cine 17K,” which is being shown for the first time in Japan. The 65mm sensor has attracted a lot of attention. I had never thought that a cinema camera with a sensor of this class would ever appear other than ARRI’s ALEXA 65, but Blackmagic Design has made it a reality. Even the 17K model can record in Blackmagic RAW. In terms of lenses, it is compatible with PL, LPL, and Hasselblad lens mounts. The price for the body only is 4,718,000 yen including tax, and reservations are currently being accepted.
