Kodak Japan and HIGHLAND SUPER 8 LAB will be exhibiting jointly at Inter BEE 2024. They are exhibiting the “KODAK Super 8 Camera,” which combines the classic features of Super 8 with digital functions. It is on sale in North America, but the release date in Japan has not yet been decided. The price in North America is $5,500, which is about 900,000 yen in Japanese yen.
Although it is basically a film camera, its distinctive feature is the fusion of analog and digital. It is equipped with an HD viewfinder, and even though it is a film camera, framing is possible on the LCD monitor. The monitor is merely a viewfinder, and does not support digital recording. As for audio, it is possible to record from an external microphone onto an SD card. Focusing is manual, and the lens mount is a C-mount. Lenses are included.
The actual price of 8mm film is about 5,000 yen. The lineup includes 5 types: 3 types of color negative, black and white reversal film “Try-X”, and color reversal film “Ektachrome 100D”. Recording time is 3 minutes 20 seconds.
In Japan, Imagica offers 35mm, 16mm, and 8mm film development services, as well as scanning services. HIGHLAND SUPER 8 LAB also offers scanning services. They also run workshops where you can experience shooting 8mm film.
