At this year’s NAB2023 Show, Adobe will showcase the latest version of its professional video production tools suite with new features. Adobe’s latest updates, including Transcription-Based Editing and Auto Tone Mapping for Adobe Premiere Pro and Properties Panel for Adobe After Effects (all in beta), will be generally available starting May 2023.
Updates for Premiere Pro
Adobe Sensei-powered Transcription-Based Editing Appears in Premiere Pro
Text-based editing in Premiere Pro is a feature that will transform post-production workflows. Premiere Pro is professional editing software with transcription-based editing that makes video editing as simple as copying and pasting text.
By automatically analyzing video and generating text, it is very possible for editors, producers, and assistants to simply copy and paste sentences in any order. The parts they want to edit will be displayed on the timeline. In addition, it is possible to accurately identify words and phrases simply by searching through the transcript search window.
“Automatic tone mapping” that maintains color and contrast consistency even when mixing images from different cameras
Automatic tonemapping and LOG color detection allow editors to put different types of HDR into the same SDR project and still get consistent color results. These functions eliminate the need to use look-up tables (LUTs) or manually adjust image balance.
Fastest and most reliable ever, delivering performance and stability
With a fundamental overhaul, Premiere Pro enhances performance and stability, making it the fastest and most reliable version of Premiere Pro ever. In addition, new features such as background auto-save, reset option on startup, manager of plugin effects, and GPU acceleration, all have been added.
With enhanced collaborative editing features including sequence lock, the sequence being edited is locked and enters “view mode” so that others can change it. It also adds a ‘presence indicator’ that shows who is working on a shared project, and ‘Work Offline’ lets you work offline and then come back online to see changes without overwriting other editors’ work. Further improvements have been made for publishing, as well.
And with Frame.io support included in Creative Cloud, projects you’re working on in Premiere Pro can be exported directly to Frame.io, uploaded, and shared for review, enabling secure project sharing and collaborative review.
In response to numerous requests from the community, RED V-Raptor X, ARRI Alexa 35, enhanced format support for Sony Venice v2 cameras, Dutch, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish and more for a total of 16 languages. Text-to-speech was also added, GPU acceleration for debayering and transition effects, simpler track targets, and direct export and rendering to Adobe Media Encoder has also been included with these new updates.
After Effects updates
Adobe After Effects has added a properties panel in their latest update, allowing for quick and easy access to the most important animation settings. The properties panel automatically displays the most important controls based on what you select, saving you time navigating the timeline and searching for settings, making it easier for new users to learn.
The new ACES and OpenColorIO maintain consistent color when sharing assets with other post-production applications, creating predictable and photorealistic images with less time and effort.
Community-requested performance optimizations such as faster timeline layer selection and multi-frame rendering of shapes. In addition, it has new keyboard shortcuts for selectable trackmats.
It also offers in-app troubleshooting for workflow issues, system performance optimization, a simple interface for enabling and disabling plugins, diagnostic tools to fix cache and preference bottlenecks, and much more. Adobe After Effects itself has been improved to help solve common problems without requiring home support.
Ashley Still, Senior Vice President of Creative Products and Digital Media Acceleration at Adobe, commented:
