Avid has announced that their famed and respected Media Composer software will now be free for all university students.

Effective immediately under the new Media Composer for Students program, learning institutions can sign up as entry-level Avid Learning Affiliates at www.avid.com/media-composer/for-students and ensure their students will gain hands-on experience with the media & entertainment industry’s requisite editing tool. The Media Composer editing software free to all college/post-secondary students aspiring to learn the editing craft and join the professional ranks of qualified storytellers working in Hollywood, TV, streaming services and elsewhere in media.

The demand is high for skilled editors, with the Bureau of Labor Statistic in the United States expecting the career path to grow 12 percent within the next 10 years. Avid is aiming to address this dearth in the industry by providing their software for free to students.

Having hands-on experience before students enter the workforce is extremely important for a career in editing, and using industry-grade software in university is the best place to start.

More details can be read on Avid’s website.
