Nikon will release the “NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR” high-magnification zoom lens for full-size/FX format mirrorless cameras using the “Nikon Z mount.” The release date is scheduled on April 19, 2024. The suggested retail price is to be announced later.
The NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is the first NIKKOR Z lens to offer a high-magnification zoom lens that covers a wide focal length range from 28mm to 400mm. With a zoom ratio of 14.2x, the highest in its class, it delivers powerful image expression that captures the texture and expression of distant subjects in an impressive way. By carrying this one lens, photographers and videographers can enjoy a wide range of photography even in situations where the distance to the subject changes frequently, such as watching sports, amusement park rides, and parades.
Furthermore, the minimum shooting distance at the wide-angle end is 0.2m. At the same time, at the telephoto end, it is only 1.2m, so it is suitable for close-ups and tabletop photography, and the maximum shooting magnification of 0.35x allows users to take large-scale shots of the subject, making it possible to depict delicate images of plants and other objects. In the telephoto range, users can get close to the subject and shoot with a blurred background. Despite being a super telephoto lens up to 400mm, it is compact and lightweight, weighing just 725g, making it the lightest in its class, making it easy to carry around when traveling or in one’s daily life.
In addition, the camera uses a stepping motor (STM) for high-speed AF drive, allowing for quick focusing on moving subjects. In addition to a 5.0-stop image stabilization effect that provides strong support for handheld shooting, the camera also features linear operation in manual focus (MF) when shooting video, making it easy to focus on the desired position.
