NAB2024
Magewell will be exhibiting at NAB 2024, which will be held in Las Vegas from April 14th to 17th. The company will be exhibiting the Magewell Director Mini, with its firmware updated to version 2.4. Magewell will have demonstrations at their booth (booth number: C6816).
The Magewell Director Mini is a complete portable production and streaming system that integrates multi-input switching, graphics, streaming, recording and monitoring in one compact device. The monitor has an intuitive touchscreen interface and companion mobile app. All this works to make it easy to create compelling multi camera content.
The Director Mini 2.4 update adds over 20 new features and enhancements, including instant replay, live support for HTML graphics platforms, and network bonding. The update is available as a free firmware update.
Dual Channel Instant Replay
The highlight of this new update is dual-channel instant replay.
Two replays can be captured simultaneously from Director Mini’s program output, HDMI, USB or NDI input. Replays can be played individually or side by side, in full speed or slow motion, with user specified stinger transitions and can also be saved as highlight recordings for later use.
New HTML Graphics Support
This support means customer defined web pages can be used as graphic overlays in Director Mini. Almost any web page can be incorporated into a production, but the real power of this feature is when used in conjunction with a live graphics platform that generates HTML based overlays in real time, such as custom scoreboards, news and election graphics.
Beta version of network bonding feature using Speedify technology
Director Mini 2.4 also features a beta version of network bonding, powered by Speedify. This feature combines all available internet connections to optimize network performance and reliability for streaming. Available connections include wired Ethernet, Wi-Fi and optional USB cellular modem. Users can connect to one of Speedify’s globally distributed bonded servers and choose the ideal Speedify server pricing plan based on their usage requirements.
Direct integration with OBSBOT’s Tail Air AI-powered PTZ streaming camera and Tiny 2 webcam
This integration enables advanced remote control of these cameras from the Director Mini user interface, including pan/tilt/zoom control, as well as AI human tracking settings, trigger presets and start/stop recording to the SD card, all configurable with Tail Air.
New support for the OSC (Open Sound Control) protocol
This support makes it possible to control Director Mini from external OSC-enabled solutions, such as Hexler’s TouchOSC modular control surface app. A new multi-view output mode displays up to eight scene thumbnails in addition to the program and preview windows on a monitor connected to Director Mini’s USB-C port.
Other new features
Building on existing support for NDI HX2 and NDI HX3, this includes support for NDI full bandwidth input sources, the ability to select live social media comments to overlay on your program output when streaming to Facebook, YouTube and Twitch, an improved user interface, an expanded API for third-party integration, and many other enhancements and improvements.
Nick Ma, CEO and CTO of Magewell, commented:
Director Mini was praised for its extensive feature set when it was first released, but we continue to expand its capabilities to give our users even more creative power, flexibility and value.
Instant Replay and HTML graphics were some of the most requested features from our users and we’re happy to deliver them in this update along with many other enhancements.
Existing Director Mini users can update to version 2.4 directly through the device’s touchscreen interface. Users can also download the new firmware from the Magewell website.
