Atomos announced that its iPhone camera app, Mavis Camera, is now compatible with the company’s video encoder, Ninja Phone, making it possible to use footage from professional cameras with HDMI output on a wider range of iPhones and iPads.
This collaboration is offered as a “camera-to-cloud” solution that combines the high-quality video of professional cameras with the superior connectivity of smartphones to improve image quality and productivity.
The compatibility enables workflows such as recording high-resolution video on the camera itself while simultaneously recording and sending proxy files on the iPhone, or streaming directly from the a DSLR or Mirrorless camera to social media.

External Recording Trigger
This integration also adds a much-requested feature from users: an external recording trigger, which allows you to synchronize the in-app recorder with the start and stop of an external camera’s recording, generating H.265 or H.264 format files.
The Mavis Camera app features an intuitive interface that allows for detailed settings such as recording format, frame rate, and color balance, as well as a wealth of professional monitoring tools such as focus peaking and waveform monitors.
“With this latest update, the Ninja Phone works seamlessly with the Mavis Camera app, giving creators complete flexibility: record directly on your iPhone or use it as a high-quality monitor for professional cameras,” said Peter Barber, CEO of Atomos.
In addition, expanded compatibility with iOS 18-compatible devices means that not only the latest Pro models but also older iPhones and iPads can be incorporated into professional workflows.
Ninja Phone is a 10-bit video encoder for connecting a professional camera to an iPhone or iPad via HDMI. When used in conjunction with the Mavis Camera app, it supports recording and streaming in a variety of formats, including ProRes, H.265, and H.264.
The Mavis Camera app is available as a free download from the App Store..
