Nikon Corporation released firmware version 3.00 for the Nikon Zf, a full-frame/FX-format mirrorless camera that uses the Nikon Z mount. The firmware is available for download from the Nikon Download Center.
Firmware version 3.00 for the “Zf” now includes a “Film Grain” function that uses image processing to add a grainy effect to still images and videos. In addition to being able to finely adjust the size and intensity of the grain, the way the grain appears changes with each shot, allowing for the unique depiction of a scene shot with actual film. In addition, “Show only when enlarged” has been added to “Focus Peaking,” making it easier to focus. Other improvements in operability and functionality make shooting and editing more comfortable, supporting creators who pursue the creation of meticulous works.
Main features of Nikon Zf firmware Version 3.00
“Film Grain” function for unique expression
The “Film Grain” function uses image processing to add a grainy effect to still images and videos, allowing you to enjoy film-like effects. By adjusting the grain size in three stages and the intensity in six stages during shooting, you can achieve a variety of effects to suit the scene and your intentions. Because there is no pattern to the combination of grain position and shape, the grain appears differently with each shot, allowing for a unique shooting experience, just like with real film. Furthermore, by combining this with “Imaging Recipes” and “Picture Controls,” which are downloadable image creation presets created by Nikon and creators, you can easily create unique expressions simply by pressing the shutter button.
*Some settings are limited when shooting video.

Equipped with functions that enable more accurate focusing and framing
A new option, “Show only when magnified,” has been added to “Focus Peaking.” Peaking appears when you magnify the image to manually focus more accurately, but is not displayed when you are not magnified. This makes it easier to focus and check the composition. In addition, “Aperture Maximum Level” has been added, making it easier to determine the focus position when shooting, even with manual focus settings. In addition, new guideline types have been added: 4:3 for still image live view and 9:16 for video live view, allowing you to shoot while imagining the composition you want to use on social media, etc.
Other Features
- Added “Automatic monitor display switching.” Selecting “On (only when monitor is stored)” prevents the eye sensor from accidentally reacting to fingers, body parts, straps, etc. when the vari-angle monitor is deployed, allowing for comfortable shooting.
- You can set the electronic shutter sound to play during High Speed Frame Capture+ and Pixel Shift shooting.
- Added the option for [Video] to [Record portrait/horizontal orientation information]. Videos shot in portrait orientation can now be played and edited in portrait orientation on the device where they were captured.
- After registering an imaging recipe on Nikon Imaging Cloud, the camera automatically displays an update confirmation screen, simplifying the operation flow.
