Canon announced the start of orders for the U-4SR, a new product in the U-4 series of outdoor broadcast camera systems, on November 5, 2025.
Canon has been developing the “U-4” series of outdoor broadcast camera systems since 1986, and for many years has supported video production at broadcast stations for weather forecasts, disaster reports, and more. Now, Canon is now releasing the “U-4SR” as a new member of the “U-4” series.
Compared to the current “U-4R II” and “U-4SP II” models, this product has improved system performance by improving the maximum speed of pan/tilt operation, the same or better environmental resistance, adopting a high-magnification lens, and supporting 12G-SDI, thereby meeting the needs of those who want to use stable, high-definition video for news reporting.
Canon U-4SR Main Features
High-speed, smooth pan and tilt operation
Compared to current products, the pan/tilt speed has been increased by up to double to 20°/sec while maintaining performance at low speeds, enabling a wide range of speeds from low to high. This makes it suitable for capturing a variety of scenes, such as landscapes or aircraft takeoffs and landings.
Environmental resistance for outdoor shooting
While following the same basic structure as the current product, which has an opening and closing mechanism for maintenance, the U-4SR complies with the dustproof and waterproof standard “IP56”. In addition, to prevent corrosion of the main body, it is coated with a heavy salt damage resistant paint, making it environmentally resistant for outdoor use.

Expanded shooting possibilities with the adoption of high-magnification lenses and support for 12G-SDI
The camera can be equipped with the “UHDxs” series of portable zoom lenses compatible with 4K broadcast cameras: “CJ25e×7.6B” (released in February 2019), “CJ45e×9.7B” (released in April 2018), and “CJ45e×13.6B” (released in April 2018), expanding the shooting range on both the wide-angle and telephoto sides compared to current products.
The telephoto lens can also be equipped with a broadcast HDTV zoom lens, allowing users to select the lens that best suits their needs based on focal length and magnification. 12G-SDI compatibility also enables 4K video transmission.
