Canon announced the release of the RF45mm F1.2 STM. This new lens is a standard prime lens for users who want to easily enjoy taking photos that take advantage of the bokeh unique to large-aperture lenses. It’s released as a new product in the RF lens interchangeable lens series for the EOS R system. Release date is slated for late November 2025.

The RF45mm F1.2 STM is a large-aperture standard prime lens that combines rich expressive power with beautiful bokeh thanks to its maximum aperture of F1.2, in a compact and lightweight design. By effectively arranging “plastic molded aspherical lenses” and using a minimal number of lens elements, the lens shoots both a large F1.2 aperture and an affordable price, meeting the needs of users who want to easily enjoy the expressive power of a large-aperture lens, one of the attractions of interchangeable lens cameras.

Canon RF45mm F1.2 STM Main Features
Large F1.2 aperture enables large, beautiful bokeh
The large bokeh effect achieved by the maximum aperture of F1.2 makes it possible to create a three-dimensional expression that makes the subject stand out. The smooth bokeh of the background gives the impression of blending into nature.
Compact and lightweight design for excellent portability
By effectively arranging “plastic molded aspherical lenses,” the number of lens elements has been reduced, achieving a compact, lightweight design with high image quality. Furthermore, by incorporating a gear-type STM (stepping motor) and using a resin cam barrel, the lens weighs approximately 346g, making it the lightest of the F1.2 aperture “RF/EF lens series,” demonstrating excellent portability.
A variety of expressions are possible depending on the shooting scene and subject
In addition to the soft depiction of images at full aperture, increasing the aperture value makes it possible to capture sharp images from the center to the periphery. Utilizing the natural angle of view of the 45mm focal length, which is close to the human field of view, the lens allows you to enjoy a wide range of expressions with a single lens, suited to a wide range of shooting scenes and subjects, such as portraits, snapshots, and landscapes.
Price and Availability
The lens is slated to be released at the end of November 2025, with a price point of $469.99 US dollars.
