ARRI has just released a new firmware update (version SUP 3.2.1) for their wireless hand units, the Hi-5 and Hi-5 SX. This update brings many new features and improvements to advance ARRI’s ECS (Electronic Control System) ecosystem and enhance your experience on set.
This update includes a wide range of enhancements, such as full support for the ALEXA 35 Xtreme, camera control support for Sony BURANO and Blackmagic URSA Cine (requires separate license), and expanded functionality for user buttons.

Full support for ALEXA 35 Xtreme
The recently released ALEXA 35 Xtreme introduced many new features, including new resolutions, sensor modes and new codecs, which are now fully supported by the Hi-5 and Hi-5 SX.
- Sensor Overdrive Display: Active sensor overdrive is displayed in the FPS section of the Cam screen. If the selected recording resolution and Codex compact drive combination does not allow changes, the field will be grayed out.
- ARRICORE display: When you select the new codec ARRICORE, the information will be displayed on the Cam page.

Sensor mode and recording resolution display
A new segment titled “REC” has been added to the Cam screen, displaying the active sensor mode (top row) and recording resolution (bottom row). Due to space constraints, Open Gate is abbreviated to “OG.” This feature is available on all ALEXA 35 models with SUP 5.x or higher.
Enhanced sensitivity support
All ALEXA 35 models now support displaying and setting Enhanced Sensitivity. To use this feature, the camera requires SUP 5.0 or later firmware.

User button long press function
It now supports “long press” of user buttons, allowing camera user button functions such as “SDI Zoom (Smart)” and “Lens Motor Calibration” to be executed directly from the Hi-5.
New Zoom User Button
A new category called “Camera Zoom” has been added to the user buttons, offering 11 dedicated buttons for quick access to various zoom functions. These buttons are always visible, but their functionality depends on the connected camera model.
Please note that the “SDI (1) Zoom” button does not work on the ALEXA Mini and ALEXA Mini LF. Also, “SDI Tracking Zoom” is a feature planned for future implementation and does not currently work on any cameras.
Adding an Ensō Prime LDA Table
LDA (Lens Data Archive) tables for all remaining Ensō Prime lenses have been added, covering the entire focal length range from 10.5mm to 250mm.
Sony BURANO control license
By linking with the NIA-1 network interface adapter, it now supports camera control for Sony BURANO. By connecting the BURANO and NIA-1 with an RJ45 network cable and activating the separately sold Sony BURANO Control License, the following settings can be changed from the Hi-5.
- Start/Stop Recording
- ND filters
- Frame rate
- Exposure Index
- Shutter Angle
- White Balance
Additionally, camera status, camera ID, codec, remaining recording time and battery status are displayed on the Hi-5.
Blackmagic URSA Cine Control License
Similarly, it now works in conjunction with the NIA-1 network interface adapter to support control of Blackmagic URSA Cine. By connecting the URSA Cine and NIA-1 with an RJ45 network cable and activating the separately sold Blackmagic URSA Cine Control License, you can change the same functions as the Sony BURANO (recording start/stop, ND filter, various settings, etc.) and display the status.
ARRI Hi-5 & Hi-5 SX Bug fixes
In addition to the above additions, this release also includes numerous bug fixes and other improvements.
