Ernst Leitz Wetzlar GmbH (hereafter: Leitz) has shipped their new Leitz HUGO cine lenses, and has announced that two sets have arrived at rental houses in France and Sweden. Stockholm’s Ljud & Bildmedia received one set from Camera Nordic, and the other was delivered to French equipment rental company RVZ.
Leitz’s HUGO lenses are among the most compact and fastest optics for cinematography. Based on Leica’s flagship M lens, the HUGO full-frame lens features a new housing design with extended focus and iris scales, an LPL mount, and the option to add a 50mm T1.0 lens to extend the T1.5 aperture throughout the set. Characterized by the unique, center-focused image is reminiscent of old optics, but with modern coatings and high reliability.
Rainer Hercher, Managing Director of Leitz, commented:
Mr. Hercher: We are very happy to introduce the Leitz HUGO lenses to the market. It has been our long-standing dream to provide cinematographers with this superior optical system. I can’t wait to see the images made with this lens.
More sets are expected to be delivered next month. Leitz will be demonstrating the lens at various events including the BSC Expo in London and the AFC Micro Salon in Paris.
