Greg Jozwiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, commented:
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are the most powerful Apple has ever made, including the best video quality of any smartphone. Equipped with a camera system. And now, we’re setting a new standard for what’s possible by allowing users to capture special moments as they are.
Spatial video is magical, and we can’t wait for users to experience it for themselves with Apple Vision Pro early next year.
Spatial video shooting possible with iPhone 15 Pro
By enabling spatial video capture in Settings, users can take advantage of the iPhone 15 Pro’s advanced camera system to capture their favorite moments in 3D. Spatial video is shot at 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second with standard dynamic range. With advanced computational video recording technology and HEVC compression, the iPhone 15 Pro delivers beautiful spatial memories in a compact file size.
1 minute of spatial video is approximately 130MB, according to Apple.
Shooting amazing spatial videos
Shooting spatial video on an iPhone is as easy as shooting regular video on an iPhone. To shoot, open the Camera app in video mode, rotate the iPhone to landscape, tap the spatial video icon, and tap the record button. iPhone starts recording video with both the advanced main camera and the ultra-wide camera, scales the ultra-wide camera’s field of view to match the main camera’s field of view, and then saves it into a single video file.
Watching spatial videos
On iPhone and other devices, spatial videos appear like regular 2D videos and can be viewed and shared in messenger apps, just like any other video. Users can view all of their space videos in the new “Space” album in the Photos app. All spatial videos are also synced between devices via iCloud.
Spatial video can be projected using Apple Vision Pro. With iCloud, users can access their entire Photos app library and watch videos at life-size, with vibrant colors and stunning detail. With Apple Vision Pro, users can play spatial videos in a window or expand them into immersive views.
iPhone 15 Pro users can already start capturing moments with friends and family and will be able to capture spatial videos on iPhone before the launch of Apple Vision Pro.
