Mavis today announced the latest version (v7.4) of its professional iOS camera app, Mavis Camera. This major update introduces the Film Kit, an optional in-app purchase that unlocks LUT workflows and open gate shooting features for creators seeking more cinematic expression and flexibility on their iPhone or iPad.
Film Kit
At the heart of Film Kit is a new color workflow, allowing creators to import custom .cube LUTs and choose between previewing the look in the viewfinder (without affecting recording) or burning the LUT into the final output. This approach also extends to the HDMI input when using the Atomos Ninja Phone, allowing the Mavis Camera to preview or capture LUT-applied footage from DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, as well as the iPhone’s built-in camera.
For faster creative results, Film Kit comes with built-in filter LUTs such as bleach bypass, bunny, cinematic, IR, monochrome and vintage that can give shots a cinematic feel with minimal setup. When you need to move quickly from shooting to live streaming, these LUTs can be recorded and carried over to downstream workflows such as live streaming and NDI.
“With this latest version of Mavis Camera, we wanted to make cinematic decisions intuitive,” Patrick Holroyd, CEO of Mavis, said..
“Whether you’re shooting on an iPhone, using a DSLR or mirrorless camera, Film Kit gives creators a practical way to monitor and capture the look they want without slowing down production.”
To further simplify color management, Mavis Camera v7.4 introduces MLUT (MavisLUT), a new format that allows combining multiple traditional LUTs and associated metadata into a single file. MLUT is designed to help teams organize looks more easily, especially when working with different color spaces.
Open Gate Capture
The Film Kit also adds Open Gate capture, allowing creators to reframe and stream in different aspect ratios from a single shot. The Mavis Camera offers two Open Gate modes: one for Apple Log workflows and one for Rec. 709, which allows for shooting at 4K and higher resolutions on compatible devices. It also now supports Apple Log 2, reflecting Apple’s unique approach to professional capture workflows.
In addition to capture and color correction, v7.4 also brings enhanced cloud support with the free ATOMOSphere Camera to Cloud integration, enabling incremental uploads to the Atomos ecosystem for review, sharing, and collaboration.
This release also includes a number of other smaller improvements, including new white balance presets for faster setup, improved shutter angle selection that snaps to common values (making it easier to ensure you set standard values like 180°), updated translations (now fully supporting French, Spanish, Chinese, and German in addition to English), and various bug fixes and performance improvements.
The Mavis Camera app is available as a free download from the App Store, while Film Kit features (including LUTs, MLUTs, and Open Gate) can be unlocked via a one-time in-app purchase of $9.99 USD (local currency conversion).
